History

Formerly known as the”Sutton Group Homes,” Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD) was founded in 1972 by Ms. Iva Sutton. Ms. Sutton, the parent of a son in need of services, opened two homes in the Kansas City area. These homes served 35 individuals with 19 staff. In order to meet the community’s growing need for services, the Sutton Group Homes were incorporated in 1975 as a 501c(3) non-profit, and became the Center for Developmentally Disabled.

In 2016, CDD consolidated with Special Neighbors, Inc. (SNI). Today CDD serves over 180 people and employs 320 staff.
