Social distancing can be tough for some clients of the Center for Developmentally Disabled. They depend on the staff to cook meals; some need assistance with hygiene, showering, and depend on staff to pass their medication. The staff is there to support their clients in all areas they can’t do for themselves.
Connie works at the Kinbrook site, which houses 15 people with 20 staff members. She says they’ve had to be flexible with shifts to limit potential exposure to COVID-19.
“I have staff that are working four 12-hour shifts and then one 8-hour shift. I have one staff that has moved in with the individual for 4 days a week.“
The overtime is costly, but CEO Sarah Mudd says their work can’t stop, so she’s hopeful they’ll get a loan from the Federal Paycheck Protection Program to help cover payroll.
“If we don’t get assistance from the Federal government, we can’t do this through the epidemic period.“
